Theatre company of Jan Chalupka, Brezno, Slovakia
History af amateur theatre in Brezno goes back to the half of
the 18 th. century and is narrowly connected to one of the greatest representatives of the
Slovak cladssics - Jan Chalupka.
The theatre company of Jan Chalupka have been prosecuting the
rich traditions since 1923 / in 1998 - 75 th anniversary of up-to-date
history/. The companys development has been very miscellaneous and its place on the
history ofthe Slovak amateur theatre is very important.In fades to introducing the Slovak
classies which havent been performed yet and to discovering of unknown playwrights works
with the effective co-operation of such masters as Peter Scherhaufer, Jozef Ciller,Ivan
Petrovicky, Roman Polak. Luboslav Majera, Ivan Hansman, etc. Its proprietor of tens
appreciations from national theatre festivals, threefold holder of the Bonus of the
Department of Culture of the Slovak Republic for a creative act the year".
The company have taken part in many performances and
festivals abroad - in Hungary /times/, Yugoslavia /5/,
Italy,Belgium,Poland,Georgia,Roumania,Denmark.
Nowadays it has 30 members and a part of the company is also
a very active group of young actors called the Studio of the Young.
